While you were enjoying your summer break, Australia's energy landscape just proved the future is already here.

January 8, 2026: Australia's biggest grid hit a historic peak of over 40,000 megawatts during the heatwave—and solar powered us through it.

Here's what's significant:

BATTERY STORAGE HIT 10% OF EVENING PEAK

For the first time, batteries contributed 10% of evening peak demand. Three years ago, this number was basically zero.

THE FEDERAL BATTERY REBATE JUST GOT A $4.9B BOOST

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program funding jumped from $2.3B to $7.2B, expected to support 2+ million installations by 2030.

Critical deadline: May 1, 2026. After this date, rebates for batteries over 14kWh drop nearly 20%. If you have clients on the fence, now is the time to close.

EVs HIT CRITICAL MASS IN AUSTRALIA

157,000 EVs sold in 2025 (+38% year on year). Australia's total EV fleet now exceeds 454,000 vehicles. Toyota just confirmed an electric HiLux, which could be the tipping point for tradie adoption.

PRICE ALERT: BUDGET EVs BREAKING UNDER $40K

New Chinese manufacturers (BYD, Zeekr, GAC Aion) are launching sub-$40K EVs in 2026, making the business case for home solar plus EV charging stronger than ever.
